Freedom in the world rating of Eastern Neighbourhood coutries (2012)

The graph shows the “Freedom in the world” index created by Freedom House. As stated on their webpage it is an “independent watchdog organisation dedicated to the expansion of freedom around the world”.
The survey is published annually and evaluates the progress or decline of freedom in 195 countries and 14 related and disputed territories. It measures two aspects of freedom:
• Political rights (PR) subdivided into three subcategories: electoral process, political pluralism, and participation and functioning of government
• Civil liberties (CL) based on four subcategories: freedom of expression and belief, associational and organisational rights, rule of law, and personal autonomy and individual rights.
Each country gets a rating between 1 and 7 (1 represents the most free and 7 the least free) for the two categories, PR and CL. The average of these two is the freedom rate, and based on that countries are divided into three categories, or statuses: Free (value between 1.0 and 2.5), Partly Free (3.0 to 5.0) and Not Free (5.5 to 7.0). Data are ordered by rating, from the most free to the least free.
The arrow on the right represents the status of the population of the six countries.
