EU countries are also committed to the preservation of regional or minority languages. The critical threshold for the survival of a language is estimated at 300 000 speakers. According to Unesco, there are 221 endangered regional and minority languages in the EU (see Figure 3). However, they are not languages spoken within a particular state. Their protection and promotion is ensured by the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages adopted under the auspices of the Council of Europe in 1992, and signed and ratified by 17 EU countries.
Adoption of a single EU language has sometimes been considered, but democracy, transparency and accountability require that all EU citizens understand clearly what is being done in their name.
Moreover, respect for linguistic diversity is enshrined in the Treaties (Article 3(3) TEU) and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU (Article 22).
To whom it may concern.
Dear Sirs
First of all, I would like to introduce myself.
My name is Nick M. Hadjis . I was born and grew up in Athens . My parents come from the same Aromanian village, Milia, near Metsovo. I am a graduate of the School of Chemical Engineering of the NTUA ( National Techical University of Athens) and I hold a postgraduate degree in MBA from ASOEE (Athens University of Economics and Business) and an M.A.Sc. of U of T (University of Toronto) in Chemical Engineering in Canada. I am married to Orsa and I have three children, Michalis , Dimitris and Elentina. After my retirement, I returned to my parents’ village, in Milia-Ioannina, Northern part of Greece, and systematically searched the Aromanian language. Results of more than ten years search and study, are publications listed bellow.
1) “Noi Meranlji” ie, “We the people of Milia” which contains a short History of the Aromanians of Greece, historical events and Aromanian songs that concern my village Milia, a tribute to the Miliotes of the Diaspora and the genealogical trees of all the inhabitants of the village , about fifty famillies , at a time depth of about 200 years.
2) “LIMBA ANUASTRAE” ie “Our Language” Gives a simplified Method of Learning the Aromanian language, a Latin based alphabet , Rules of Spelling and Phonology are proposed , and also Rules of Grammar with a great variety of examples are given. Also includes rules of pronunciation and writting, and finaly every day dialogues in four languages Greek-Aromanian – English and French. Consists of two books ( Book A and Book B) a total of more than 800 pages ( Athens 2019)
3) “ZBOARE-ZBOARI ARMIINESTI TU PATRU LIMBE-LIMBI” ie “ Aromanian words in four Languages” A Vocabulary of more than (5,000) five thousand Aromanian words are recorded using the Latin Alpfabet , their translation into Greek language and their pronunciation given with Greek characters for Greek readers. The same 5000 thousand Aromanian Words are translated into English and French.Total 300 pages ( Athens 2020).
All above books are written in Greek Language. Please find attached samples of above books , so you can have an idea of my work.
My main objective is not to make money out of my work but to make the Aromanian language known, to as many as possible Scholars, Institutions, Universities, who migth be interested . For this reason I am wiling to send you “LIMBA ANUASTRAE” and the Vocabulary “ZBOARE-ZBOARI ARMIINESTI TU PATRU LIMBE-LIMBI” in pdf form so that can be published and distributed by you or any other person or institution to any one interested, for free or with a token value to cover just the printing costs. This is a clear and honest proposal with no strings attached.
My article “The origin of the Aromanian …….” is also in Greek Language , but as I know foreign magazine definitely want it in English. The Book about grammar can be translated in English but it will take some time
Finaly find attached my work about Aromanian Language (Origin etc.) in two languages, Greek and English and I will ask you if you know any Glossological journals to accept this work for publication.
Thank you and I remain.
